2009 The Gate Shiraz

 NEW VINTAGE RELEASE

"Aromas of blackberries, with black pepper and ground spices. Full bodied, with silky tannins and a smoky, mineral and spice aftertaste. This is very, very stylish and designer. Digging it. Best in 2015. Score - 97 pts."

James Suckling.com. Tasting Report: Shiraz & Blends - The Second Coming, November 24 2011

"Closed and tight, this is a sleeping giant. The fruit is superb, though it is totally suppressed right now. The wine has real depth to the palate and the tannins are fine and the high quality oak is well integrated. This wine needs 15 years to show its best, so give it plenty of air if you drink it young. A real star from a producer that is at the top of their game! Tasted October 27 2011"

Fine Wine Club, 'Independent Advice on all Things Wine" November 2011

"Opulently perfumed and the silky flavours deliver too. Loads of pepper, intense red fruits, chocolate and liquorice with a rose petal nuance and a long, creamy finish."

The Champion's List, 2011 New Zealand International Wine Show

"Black cherries, black fruits, leather, spice, iodine, chocolate. An intense style. Excellent length with a note of oak. Tannins are quite fine, if a little chewy. 93."

Ken Gargett, Courier Mail, August 27th 2011

"Intense aromas reminiscent of cherry liqueur and rich, but not jammy, loganberry fruit flavours with dark chocolaty oak. Needs more time: has up to 10 years ahead of it. 4 1/2 stars"

Winestate Magazine, McLaren Vale & Fleurieu tasting, July / August 2011

Tasting Note:

Deep violet red. Intense aromas of ripe summer strawberries, blackberries and dark cherries, with nuances of milk chocolate and the perfume of heritage red roses. The mid-palate overflows with luscious blackberries and raspberries and is defined by the fine tannin structure and acidity that is the hallmark of the 2009 McLaren Vale vintage. A subtle frame of fine grained American and French oak delicately enhance both flavour and texture.
