2010 Red Knot McLaren Vale Shiraz
"The bright crimson colour announces a wine that has a different character to that of the 2009. Here, regional dark chocolate does play a major role alongside the savoury notes it shares with the 2009. The medium - full bodied palate has very good texture and structure, making this a wine that can be cellared with confidence, and offers good value for money. 90 pts."

"...Red Knot by Shingleback reminds us of shiraz from a decade ago, and that is a good thing. They are made to be hedonistic, to drink now. The attack is soft and spicy with juicy, rounded, harmonious black and blueberry fruit with bits of coffee and mocha. Fine quality for the price and would be perfect with grilled sausages or steaks."
Anthony Gismondi, Vancouver Sun, Canada Sepember 23 2011
"Classic McLaren Vale full-bodied Shiraz, coloured vibrantly to start and displaying all its rich, plummy fruits proudly, while its weight and internal structures stand up confidently and with good balance. It's richly flavoured with all the right notes played well, totally drinkable and excellent buying when the footy team is heading around for its end-of-year knees-up. Value: Fantastic. Rating: 4 bottles"
Tony Love, Adelaide Advertiser September 14th 2011
Red Knot is the budget brand of McLaren Vale winery Shingleback. The 2010 Shiraz is good value. There's good depth of bright colour, a jammy nose of berries, subtle sweet spices and cocoa-like oak influence in the background. It's medium-bodied and succulent in the mouth with savoury, chewy tannins underneath. Ageing: 1 - 4 years, 4 stars"
Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age Epicure, August 28th 2011
"Brothers Kym and John Davey own and manage the 100Ha Shingleback vineyard - a big enough operation to produce outstanding regional wines. Their entry level Red Knot Shiraz presents a bright and fruity face of the Vale, backed by savoury and earthy notes. It offers huge value, especially during periods of intense discounting."
Chris Shanahan, Canberra Times, August 28th 2011
"Lovely mix of ripe Shiraz fruit and candied vanillan oak aromas. Spice and redcurrant fruit on the palate with hints of plum and licorice. Only medium-bodied and not particularly dense, this is a good drink."
Fine Wine Club, Perth WA, August 18th 2011
Tasting Note
Deep magenta. Fragrant aromas of blackberry and black forest cake with hints of citrus blossom and subtle cashew oak fill the glass. The textured, dark berry fruit palate is alive with black pepper and licorice nuances. Chewy tannins coat the tongue and define the long, lingering finish.
