Shingleback Haycutters

Shiraz 2017

$18.00

Tasting note

Brilliant deep magenta. Intense blackberry primary aromas are highlighted with notes of crystallized violets and chocolate. The palate is a compote of dark berry fruits with shots of espresso, married with rich, chewy tannins that lead into the long, savoury finish.

Medium-bodied with deliciously juicy fruit. Fleshy and rounded. Generous and composed. Great value anda top example of affordable McLaren Vale Shiraz. 90 pts.

Toni Paterson, Real Review, Cellar Talk, Buy of the Week, January 2018

Very deep, inky purple colour; impressive to regard. The aroma is fresh, young and primal, a little callow in fact. The wine is big and gutsy, full-bodied and tannic, with a lot of grip and truckloads of fruit. Dark plums, blackberries, a little aniseed. It has terrific potential but needs more time to be comfortable in its skin. How we reconcile this with an AUD $18 price-tag, the price of a drink-now wine, I'm not sure. It is extremely good value for money but you'd need to like drinking big, bold, callow red wines. But yes, it is unequivocally great value!  92 pts.

Huon Hooke, huonhooke.com.au, March 2018

You have to admire its sturdiness. And the boldness of the fruit. It tastes of blackberry and chocolate and while it has a slightly salty edge, or 'stressed herbs' as they say, it puts on a pretty decent show. File it under 'no shrinking violet'. 90 pts.
