Davey Estate

Shiraz 2016

Only select parcels of Shiraz (predominantly clones 1654, BVRC12 and BVRC30), grown on both red & black soils over limestone on the Davey Estate vineyard, are selected for this wine. The wine is hand-crafted in small open & static fermenters to maximise the potential of each small parcel of fruit. Maturation for an average of 15 months in new - 5 year old fine-grained American and French oak hogsheads softens, enhances & integrates the fruit & structural components of the wine.

Tasting Note

Deep purple red. Primary aromas of blackberry and mulberry are enhanced with hints of spice, chocolate and roasted nuts. The full-bodied palate is filled with ripe blackberry fruit and defined by chewy fruit tannins. Elements of roasted game and fennel bulb temper the sweet fruit adding intricate layers to this complex McLaren Vale Shiraz.

* No animal products are used in the production of this wine.

Deep, dense, crimson red colour. Dark plum aromas, a little chocolate, tar and spice. The palate is fleshy, brooding and chocolatey with hints of vanilla and spice. Good harmony and palate balance.

Toni Paterson, The Real Review, July 2018

Very deep, youthful purple/red colour. Very spicy black fruit aromas, some pepper, and the palate is intense and elegantly-crafted, with a touch of firmness and delicious drinkability. Full-bodied and bold, bright, flavour-packed and generous. Concentrated, high-impact flavour, utterly delicious and amazing value. It is young, though, and will reward a little cellar time.

Huon Hooke,, July 2018

Yes. We're in good territory here. Sweet-fruited but firm and chewy. Dense and bright at once. Raspberry and roasted plums, bitumen and cloves. It lures you in and keeps you well entertained. Value. 93 pts.

James Halliday Wine Companion 2019, August 2018

The 2016 Davey Estate Single Vineyard Shiraz is a full-bodied, dense version of Shiraz, with smoke, cedar and vanilla shadings over a compressed core of fruitcake and plum pudding. Flourishes of cocoa on the finish add a welcome, lightening touch. 90 pts.

Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate, September 2018

Perfumed and compelling, this gratifying Shiraz displays gorgeous dark fruit, cranberry jelly, toasty oak and mixed spice notes with a concentrated silky palate, finishing impressively long and sturdy.
