Kym is a fifth generation South Australia farmer. Prior to planting the Davey Estate Vineyard with his brother John, Kym was the owner and managing director of Lawrys Pty Ltd, South Australia’s leading advanced tree nursery and civic landscaping company. Throughout his career, Kym has applied best practices to produce superior results, cultivating and harvesting a wide variety of agricultural products. When Kym and his brother John determined the family’s Willunga Basin property was ideally suited to growing wine grapes, Kym went to work researching cutting edge farming practices that would allow the vineyard to produce superior results. Both brothers agreed that innovative canopy management would lead to success, and under Kym’s leadership the vineyard was planted with state-of-the-art trellising and a sophisticated irrigation system to allow precise deficit irrigation.
In addition to serving as Managing Director of the vineyard and family winery, Kym serves on the board of several companies including the Willunga Basin Water Company. He holds a Diploma in Business Planning from the South Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Business SA). During his studies, he was awarded the Australian Institute of Management prize for leadership.
A passionate motor bike racer, Kym lives 10 minutes from the family vineyard, at Aldinga Beach, where he can also indulge his enthusiasm for watersports.
