RED HOT RED KNOT
The Red Knot Shiraz continues to over deliver - 2012 wins Gold & Best of Class in the Sunset International Comp, USA.
McLaren Vale Cabernet Shines on World Stage
McLaren Vale has long been recognised for the quality of its Shiraz, but its Cabernet Sauvignon is also right up there with the world’s best. The medal winners from the inaugural Concours International des Cabernets, held in Paris earlier in June, have just been released. 30 Gold medals were awarded, mostly to European entries, but 2 of the 30 are coming to Australia. To McLaren Vale. Shingleback's 2012 D Block Cabernet Sauvignon and 2012 Davey Estate Cabernet Sauvignon are Australia's only Gold medal winners in the competition. Of the 4 Silver medals that were awarded to Australian entries, 2 of them are also headed to Shingleback, D Block again, this time the 2011 vintage, but also the entry level 2013 Red Knot Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a testament, across all price points, to the hard work of the winemaking & viticultural teams. Noted primarily as a Shiraz producer, this isn't the first major endorsement for the quality of Cabernet as crafted by Shingleback - back in 2006, the 2005 D Block Cabernet won the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show and, in 2013, the 2010 D Block Cabernet was the Grand Champion Wine at the Royal Queensland Wine Show. Earlier this year, the 2012 Davey Estate Cabernet was awarded Champion Cabernet Sauvignon at the 2014 Winewise Championships.
These results cap a great week for Shingleback on the international Wine Show circuit. A few days ago, results from Canada's Selections Mondiales des Vins were also announced, another 6 Gold and 2 Silver medals for Shingleback. The Gold medal winners came from across all price points, starting with the 2013 Red Knot Cabernet (RRP$14.95) and finishing with the 2012 Shingleback Unedited Shiraz (RRP$80.00), this year’s Scarce Earth release.
Winners are Grinners!

7th Greatest Shiraz in the World?
For the last 7 years bi-monthly wine magazine “Winestate” has held what it calls “The World’s Greatest Shiraz Challenge”, attracting entries from Australia, New Zealand, France and Chile. Results are published in the September / October issue of the magazine.
Last year we were very proud of the 2009 Shingleback Unedited Shiraz being ranked 10th from 657 entries. This year, we’ve gone that step further – Shingleback’s 2009 D Block Reserve Shiraz placed 7th of 742 entries – the only McLaren Vale wine listed in the Top 10.
The judges said:
“A powerful, rich and meaty wine - a real stand-out! Dense and inky in colour, with excellent balance between the lovely dark, licoricey fruit and the long, gritty tannins. Has interesting complexity. 5 stars.”
HONG KONG AUSTRALIA BUSINESS AWARDS
The annual Hong Kong Australia Business Association Awards, SA Chapter, were held on August 10th at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. We were delighted to again be invited to be the sole wine sponsor, with the 300 guests enjoying a selection of Shingleback wines to accompany a delicious 3 course dinner. Congratulations to all the nominees and award winners.

Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2013
5 Star Winery Rating
The highly anticipated 2013 edition has just been released & we are proud to announce that the hard work & dedication of Shingleback’s winemakers John Davey & Dan Hills has been rewarded with:
• a 5 star winery rating
• 7 wines scored 94 points or more
• 13 wines scored 90 points or more
“Shingleback has been a success story since its establishment in 1995. Originally focused on export, as times have changed, so has its focus. Its 100ha of estate vineyards are one of the keys to that success, winning the Jimmy Watson Trophy 06 for its 05 D Block Cabernet Sauvignon another. The well-made wines are rich and full-flavoured, but not overripe (and, hence, not excessively alcoholic).”
